ISO and 1,000 miles

I have just been itching to write a blog today, so I decided to dig out a concept I’ve been meaning to use from last summer.
In many ways, since I took my trip up to Gainesville for the African American Scholars program my life has really began to resemble a journey in many of its aspects.
Back then, I viewed college as the culmination of my education, but also as a point that would change my entire life, in a nutshell, I saw it as a precursor for the rest of my life. Now, after getting into four colleges, the whole process seems so dismal to me, but yet at the same time the journey is far from over. I still haven’t made a decision, I have several viable options, and for a while I was so unsure that I refused to even address the situation.
The reason why this blog is called ISO and 1,000 miles is because, on the way back I stopped to see my friend Jeff Gardner at UCF, one of the colleges I was accepted to, and their he and his friend Ryan taught me what the heck the little numbers on the side of film canisters meant.
Apparently, those numbers tell the photographer, in this case me, the speed of the film. The lower the speed, like 200 or 100, makes the film less sensitive to light, but at the same time, the lower the ISO the greater the quality of the photo.
This at first seemed really confusing, but then when I thought about it, the more exposure to light coupled with a slower film speed creates a firm footing for a well exposed photo. Now although this equation isnt a sure winner, it most certainly can help you out alot.
So reflecting on this concept over all this time, Ive realized were aren’t that different from film. Many times, I have sat in darkness, whether it was by being alone, being in unmitigable rage, acting selfishly or even letting my other vices master my me. And above all I have been impatient. But like we see above, sometimes its better to go a slower speed, and it is most definitely always essential to fill yourself with light.
I don’t know, its like sometimes we forget that just like we need water, we need to fill ourselves with light. So may we never forget, to take it slow and to take in the light.
Thanks for reading.

Aundre, I really have to say that you have become a role model to me. Your understanding of this topic made me realize that what you are saying is so true! It seems as if analogies come really affluent to you. We need to sit down and just confabulate one day after school. One day we will be very contiguous friends. I know it (:
