Other times, I wonder why I feign self importance, because when I allow it to fall away, or when I simply forget, I feel am free. These moments usually come after God shows me that I  need to stop complaining because what I see as immense mountains are really just pebbles in the big picture. They also come after I spend time with people who I love and who love me, like when I play frisbee,  basketball, cranium or apples to apples.  Just Like streetlights that guide us home after a rough night, these fireflies of freedom dance around me to remind me how sweet life can be.

And I know i am using an extended metaphor here, but to be honest, what is more free and more liberated than a firefly? They dance around in the night sky, reminding us of all that is right in the world, like children do around those spewy things at waterparks.

So we all have alot of fireflies in our lives, things that show us the heart of life, and the heart of God. Things that reveal freedom to us, things that dare us to leave our pride, our pain, our everything behind and to just dance with them. To foxtrot, to salsa, to break dance, to belly dance, to waltz, whatever is your style, these tiny lights of friendship,  purpose, kindness, sportsmanship, heck your fireflies can be whatever.

But whatever they are, I urge you to follow those lights as they lead you to a greater light and a greater hope. Our life is not empty, its not hopeless and it isnt pointless.

May we make our hearts a jar in which we carry our symbols of freedom with us. And each time we need a reminder of our purpose and our hope may we peer inside and let one out and allow it to teach us how to be free.
